A look back at 2022 and what’s next for sewts in 2023

2 Feb 2023

We know we’re a bit late with a 2022 recap, but in our defense: We could not publish this one without mentioning our big milestone of the year – the delivery of the first VELUM system.

So since we’re late, we’ll keep the look back short and also give you an insight into what’s next for us!

Five highlights from 2022

Being recognized as part of the European Robotics Landscape

At the start of 2022, sewts was recognized as one of the top AI startups in Europe by the appliedAI initiative in their European AI Startup Landscape. The goal of this landscape is to increase the visibility of promising startups and driving the use of AI.

Having our first Team Building Event

One big highlight for our team was definitely our first ever Team Building Event. We spent 2,5 days in the alps, went on a Canyoning adventure, talked team development and to simply got to know each other a whole lot better.

Starting the development for our second use-case

From the start, the sewts technology was meant to have many applications – any industrial process involving easily deformable materials really. However, the last few years were almost exclusively dedicated to bringing the industrial laundry system VELUM on the road. The start of the second development project for our second use-case moves us a lot close to what our vision for sewts is. It will be a system for the automatic handling of fashion e-commerce returns (unpacking, quality check and re-packing).

Becoming part of the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab Accelerator

It’s finally official – we’re part of the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab accelerator program! Check out our page with them to learn more about our collaboration.

Delivery of sewts.VELUM #1

This is the big one – in November, we delivered our first VELUM system to a customer. Market entry is without a doubt one of the most exciting times in any startup and comes with great joy and also new challenges for the team. We’re very excited for our customers to use VELUM in their daily business and to learn from their experiences with it, so we can continually improve our solutions as well as our customer service.

Three things to come in 2023

As exciting as 2022 was, 2023 will for sure be even bigger. Here’s what we are focusing on for 2023:

Increasing our production capacities for VELUM

In 2023, we have the capacity to deliver 15 to 25 systems. This by itself requires a lot of scale-up-work, but of course we are planning to also ramp up our production considerably for the years after that. Therefore, increasing our production capacity will be a key challenge for us this year.

Making VELUM available for more customers

More VELUMs for more customers – that’s the focus for this year. Not just in terms of quantity, but also in terms of location. Right now, we’re focused on the DACH region, but soon, VELUM will be available in additional areas, like Northern Europe or the Baltics.

Developing our second use-case

Last but not least, the development of our second use-case in Reverse Logistics/Returns Handling will be a major core focus for 2023. We’re already busy prototyping and testing our concepts and can’t wait to show our progress soon!
